Engaging with Brands

So, I learned that I'm terrible at trying to communicate with anyone, let alone brands on twitter. I had no idea of what to even type when trying to communicate with these brands. I feel that the main reason trying to get them to respond was so daunting was because I knew that they must get hundreds of messages a day. I also knew I had nothing exceptional to say to them, nothing that they hadn't already seen multiple times that day. I really did try as hard as I could, and the best I could do was a few general, vague comments. Another huge reason that I had a hard time was because it was and is so far out of my comfort zone to try and get attention online from strangers. As a result, the things I wrote were false and plastic sounding. It was so obvious that I didn't really mean what I posted, so I'm not surprised that they didn't respond. Maybe I would have been more successful if I hadn't tried so hard; sometimes its better to just write what you think without thinking too much about it. This is especially true in a casual setting like twitter, but I'm just not good at casual writing. So after I failed the first time, I failed again by trying to ask questions. I thought that the brands would be more likely to engage if they thought I was curious because I wanted to buy their products. Unfortunately, this did not get a response, which actually surprised me because all of the brands I followed wanted to do was sell things. I don't really know what else I could have done to get their attention. Maybe if I said something negative about the brands they would be more likely to engage to defend themselves. However, I'm not really comfortable doing that kind of thing for obvious reasons.
